Kalvesta Implement 2020 4-H Sponsorships

Aug. 26 2020 News By Morgan Mendoza

Kalvesta Implement is proud to sponsor a selection of kids in the local 4-H program. We recognize the role 4-H plays in the participant’s lives. It's important to us to support that.

This valuable program gives kids the opportunity to learn important skills that simply cannot be taught in a classroom. They will learn about public speaking, responsibility, money management, and get hands-on experience in new crafts.

We really enjoy getting to learn about the kids we sponsor. Every year, they send us letters where they share all of their victories and lessons from the season.

The 2020 fair season held many challenges and unknowns that were out of the participant's control. However, one aspect that did remain consistent was the kids' hard work, determination, and persistence.

This became more apparent than ever as I read through their letters. It was inspiring to me to hear their positivity during this time. Just like always, this season was one that they really enjoyed.

Today, I'm going to share a selection of the letters we received with you. I hope that you enjoy their stories as much as we did.

"Thank you for buying my hog at the auction and supporting the 4-H program. This was my first year in the pig project and I learned a lot about taking care of pigs. I plan to take pigs to the fair next year. 4-H has taught me to work hard. I will put the money in my account for pigs or college. Thank you for your support."

"Thank you so much for buying my pig at the premium auction. Since this was my first year with pigs, I learned how to feed and take care of my pigs. I also learned how to show my pigs in the show ring. 4-H has taught me how to go and do things in front of other people. I am going to put the money in my savings account in the bank. Thanks again for the support."

"I'd like to thank you for supporting 4-H. I can say with confidence that 4-H is my passion. I'm a 4th generation 4-Her that has been active since Clover-Bud age. I have a love for public speaking, teaching, helping, and learning. When someone recognizes my character, I am always proud to say; It’s all thanks to 4-H :). Your contributions never go unnoticed."

"Thank you so much for your support of my 4-H projects. I really love 4-H and with your help I can keep doing all my projects. This year I took to the fair a Market Steer named Beefer. I came up with his name because I knew that cattle were beef and then I spiced it up with the "er". He was a great steer for me because he was just always relaxed which is what I like. I also had 2 Market Swine named Porky and Hammer. I only got to show Hammer at the fair because a few days before the fair we had to take Porky to the butcher because his gut got twisted and he did not feel good. I also took a Breeding Gilt named Sweetheart. She got Reserve Grand Champion. Besides Livestock, I also did Clothing Buymanship, Arts and Crafts, and Rocketry. In Clothing Buymanship I got Reserve Grand Champion where I bought an outfit for basketball practice. For Arts and Crafts, I built all the Lego's that I got for Christmas. And Rocketry I built the Liberty Rocket and when we shot it off it went 69 meters high. Thanks again."

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for donating to my 4-H livestock projects. I really appreciate all your support. This year at the County Fair I took 2 Market Steers (Joey and Chandler) and 1 Market Hog (Rachel). I won Grand Champion Market Steer with Chandler and was over the moon excited. He also got Reserve Grand Champion in the Scan o Gram contest. Joey did great too as he got Class Champion and made the final drive. My hog Rachel got a blue ribbon and in the Scan o Gram contest got Grand Champion. I also took several paintings and received several blues and purples on those. It might not have been a traditional fair, but I am so thankful for what we got to do. I am excited for the upcoming school year to get started where I will be a 7th grader. I plan on this year being active in Volleyball, Basketball, track, band, piano, and of course 4-H!!!"
