Escuela El Sembrador was started in 1954 by a couple from Ohio, Donald and Twana Hawk who were farmers, Who recognized the call of God on their lives to go to Honduras to start a school to help educate young boys and teach them basic farming skills. The first "class" had 10 boys who lived with the Hawks much like a large family. The Hawks started with 1 acre cleared and an older house. Over the years the ministry has grown from that humble beginning to 2000 acres, milking 200 twice a day, 800 hogs, and 800 beef cattle. El Sembrador is a private Christian boarding high school for boys without the resources to pay for a little better education. The tuition is paid with scholarships from the US with some of the cost offset by agricultural production. We are currently boarding about 40 boys with another 200 students, boys and girls, bussed in everyday only for classes.
The production side has a farm manager with a leadership team of about 7 people overseeing a certain aspect of the operation. My role as a missionary is more of a consultant, helping in the shop on equipment and facilitating parts acquisition, etc. I am privileged to work with a team of coordinators, all of whom are young enough to be our sons, watching them care for the land and working to improve the operation to better help the education side. We continue to look to the future and long term care of the land and best farming practices.
We as a team are thankful for people like Kalvesta Implement for your part in helping.
